Driving European Digital Innovation: SYSGO @ IPCEI-CIS Annual Meeting

Events & Webcasts, IoT

From March 27 to 28, 2025, the historic city of Gdańsk, Poland, hosted the annual meeting of the Important Project of Common European Interest on Next Generation Cloud Infrastructure and Services (IPCEI-CIS). As project manager for the Suzeck initiative, SYSGO had the opportunity to engage with key stakeholders shaping the future of the European sovereign cloud and digital infrastructure.

The IPCEI-CIS initiative plays a strategic role in Europe’s digital transformation. By supporting cross-border collaboration and aligning industrial capabilities with EU digital sovereignty objectives, the initiative aims to establish a robust, secure, and competitive European cloud and edge infrastructure ecosystem. For SYSGO, this aligns closely with our mission of delivering trusted embedded systems that ensure security and reliability at all levels.

One of the key highlights of the event was the emphasis on four critical areas:

  1. Cloud Technologies as Strategic Infrastructure: Discussions underscored the importance of cloud platforms in enabling scalable, resilient, and sovereign European services. There was broad consensus on the need to accelerate the development of EU-owned infrastructures to reduce dependency on non-European providers.
  2. Cloud Security and Resilience: Security was prominently featured across multiple sessions. The role of robust cybersecurity frameworks in ensuring trusted data environments and operational continuity is more relevant than ever, particularly in sensitive industrial and public sector applications.
  3. Forthcoming IPCEI-CIS Calls (2026): The upcoming funding and collaboration calls for 2026 were presented as a key enabler for continued innovation. These calls aim to support initiatives that contribute to open, secure, and energy-efficient cloud and edge solutions.
  4. Data Sovereignty and European Regulatory Control: Ensuring data stays within jurisdictions governed by European laws was a recurring theme. There is a clear focus on creating cloud architectures that comply with European standards, support interoperability, and guarantee user control over data.

A standout moment was the presentation of emerging projects such as 8RA and Virt8RA, which represent promising strides in creating trusted, high-assurance cloud solutions. These efforts reflect the kind of innovation and long-term vision the IPCEI-CIS is designed to support. Suzeck (Read the Blog Article), led by SYSGO, is well-positioned to contribute to this momentum by focusing on secure system software and platform-level assurance for cloud-native infrastructures.

We also engaged with the members of the facilitation group over the update of the IPCEI-CIS Reference Architecture as a comprehensive framework for the IPCEI-CIS Integrated Project and how this could be part of the initial IPCEI-CIS national project. The resulting document will be published as soon as it is finalized, towards the end of the project.

Another noteworthy interaction was the opportunity to exchange perspectives with Maria Vlasiou (Hypatia Professor at the University of Twente). Her insights into system optimization and modeling added valuable academic depth to the practical challenges discussed at the event.

SYSGO remains committed to contributing its expertise in embedded software security and safety to collaborative European initiatives like Suzeck, which supports the development of trustworthy cloud solutions at the edge of critical infrastructure.

As IPCEI-CIS continues to grow, so does the potential for meaningful impact across European industries and societies. The event in Gdańsk reaffirmed that strategic collaboration and technical excellence are essential to building a secure and competitive digital future for Europe.
