This demonstration presents a solution that will combine the best of the two worlds: Safe and secure partitioning provided by PikeOS, SYSGO´s flagship product, and the full-featured and widely used Windows XPE.
"We are happy with the results of the collaboration of two important players in the embedded market who are addressing issues currently faced by a growing number of industrial users," said Jacques Brygier, VP Product Strategy at SYSGO. "Our customers are asking us to take on the challenge presented by the new multi-core technology: Efficient ways for systems with different levels of real-time support and functionalities to run on the same hardware platform."
The configuration demonstrated at RTS Embedded Systems in Paris at the SYSGO booth shows a Windows XP Embedded application running in one core, and a PikeOS personality-based real-time application running in the other core. Personalities that can run concurrently with Windows XPE include Linux, POSIX, OSEK (the automotive standard) and even ARINC 653 (the avionics standard). The hardware platform is a standard dual-core virtualisation-capable x86 board but the software solution can run on more advanced platform like the Digital Logic MSEBX945 board.
"Our customers, especially those dealing with highly demanding environments, are requesting execution platforms where Windows applications can be mixed safely with hard real-time applications," said José Almeida, Technical Director South Europe at SYSGO. "SYSGO's technology offers this unique capability."
"It is very important for Microsoft not only to offer to its embedded customers the power and high level of functionality of Windows Embedded, but to make it available for a large range of real-time application types," said Olivier Bloch, Embedded Developer Evangelist of Microsoft. "Collaboration with well-established suppliers of embedded/real-time solutions such as SYSGO is a very efficient way to achieve this goal."
