New Features: Linux ELinOS becomes a Security Embedded OS

ELinOS, Linux, Security

SYSGO has integrated features in the new ELinOS version 7.0.2. that significantly improve the security of embedded systems. Among the new features are the integration of the kernel extension Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux) and the activation of Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR). Furthermore, ELinOS now comes with a testsuite and configurations to make the system conform to the cybersecurity guideline "Configuration Recommendations of a GNU/Linux System" of the French cybersecurity authority "Agence nationale de la sécurité des systèmes d'information" (ANSSI). The testsuite for the ANSSI guideline can be adapted to other cybersecurity standards, such as the "IT-Grundschutz" requirements of the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) as well.

System to detect threats such as password changes or root activities. In addition, ELinOS 7.0.2 is now able to perform over-the-air updates (OTA) and offers a highly configurable tool to provide system upgrade images.

The new ELinOS version addresses software developers and project managers in the industrial, medical, automotive, rail and aerospace sectors who require a solid security architecture for their embedded networked systems designed for durability. The introduction of security features in the new ELinOS version is a response to the increased threat level in the IT sector and is intended to provide future systems with additional means of security protection beyond basic protection. "As a team, we have been thinking about how we can effectively improve the security of our solutions. I am proud that we have succeeded in providing developers of embedded systems with a powerful set of tools combined with long-term maintenance of our ELinOS product." says David Engraf, Head of Product Development Embedded Linux ELinOS at SYSGO.
